England’s compact size is part of what makes it such a great place to live as an exchange student. Wherever you’re placed, adventure is never far away. Weekend trips are easy to fit in, whether that’s hiking the hills of Oxfordshire, cycling through Norfolk, catching waves in Brighton, or rock climbing in the Peak District.

Living locally also means you get to experience the small everyday details of English life, not just the highlights, from corner shops and school traditions to the nearest fish and chip shop.

Schools

In England, there are various types of high schools and colleges to choose from. When enrolling, you’ll be placed in classes that match your level and prior knowledge. While Math and English are mandatory subjects, you generally have the freedom to choose your own subjects.

The British school year consists of three semesters that begin in September, January, and April. As an exchange student, your start date will be either in September or January.

Students from Australia and New Zealand can go to England for a Term or a Semester without visa restrictions.  Students wishing to go for longer can do so if they hold an EU passport.
